Recycle Old Carpet
Save $$ and Our Environment
Did you know?
Over 5 billion pounds of carpet is thrown away each year, making it one of the largest single contributors to landfills!
Only 4.6% of discarded carpet is currently being recycled, but 60% of carpet is recyclable!
Products made with recycled carpet include new carpet & pad, plastic-wood composites for things like picnic tables and park benches, automobile parts, erosion control products and more!
It costs about $2.00 per square yard to dispose of carpet at the landfill, where it will stay forever!
You will save about half that much when your carpet is delivered to our collection trailer.
Essential Steps for Preparing Carpet for Recycling:
- If a tack strip is attached, first cut around the entire outside to leave the tack strip with carpet edge in place.
- Cut carpet and pad into 3' to 6' wide strips. We cannot accept pieces smaller than 3' wide.
- Roll carpet and pad strips and tie with twine. Tape can be used only if it is rolled carpet side in.
- Call 608-785-1234 to inquire about carpet drop-off days/times.
- After arranging a drop-off day and time, bring the prepared carpet and/or pad rolls (no scraps, glued carpet/pad or carpet tiles; no tack strip, nails or other debris) to our collection trailer at 415 Nelson Place. Carpet cannot be dropped off without our staff present.
